Denotations- what is it/what do we see

Connotations-what does it portray/symbolize/what do we understand from an image

Target Audience- means effective marketing communication strategies can be put in place eg. target teenagers by using snapchat.

Mise en Scene- The arrangement of the scenery and props etc. on a theatrical stage or the set of a film


Genre- A style or category of art, music or literature eg. comedy

Semiotics- The study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.

Stereotype- Audience instantly understand what they are. Used as a 'visual shortcut'. Stereotypes (images) are repeated many times and are therefore 'normal'.

Archetype- The 'ultimate' stereotype e.g.. white stiletto's big busted, blonde bimbo (Essex woman). 

Counter type- A representation that challenges tradition. 

Representation- The way in which people, events, places and ideas are presented to an audience.

Audience- the assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a play, film, concert, or meeting.
